This morning, you have the flexibility to either spend more time in Tokyo or take an early bullet train to Kyoto to maximize your time in Japan’s ancient capital.

Upon arrival in Kyoto, drop off your luggage and enjoy the rest of the afternoon exploring at your own pace. Kyoto is home to countless historical and cultural treasures, making it hard to choose where to go. Since Day 5 will focus on Eastern Kyoto, today is the perfect time to explore the Western side of the city.

Suggested Places to Visit in Western Kyoto:
・Arashiyama Bamboo Forest – Walk through the famous bamboo grove and visit the picturesque Togetsukyo Bridge.
・Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion) – A breathtaking gold-leaf-covered temple, one of Kyoto’s most iconic sights.

Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some extra time in Kyoto before heading to the airport. If you haven’t yet visited Fushimi Inari Taisha, this is a perfect opportunity to explore its famous thousands of vermilion torii gates in the peaceful early morning hours.
When it’s time to depart, you will take a train or bus to the airport for your return flight home.
