Your discovery of Japan starts in Tokyo, where you will do an insightful private tour of the city on your 2nd day. You will do similar guided day tours in Nara and Kyoto, and there will be plenty of time for extra experiences in the schedule as well. We offer optional tours or tickets to popular destinations like Tokyo Disneyland, teamLab Toyosu, the Ghibli Museum, Universal Studios Japan, or a one-day trip to Hiroshima. We can give you personalized advice on good activities to do by yourself on your free days.

But that is not all; you will not only get to see the best highlights of Japan with the beautiful backdrop of fall foliage, but you will also stay at a traditional ryokan and enjoy a kaiseki dinner in Kyoto’s Arashiyama. This area is one of the best foliage viewing spots in Kyoto. We will organize a night tour to enjoy illuminated autumn leaves and you also get the chance to observe the colorful leaves in the morning without any crowds near the ryokan.

Day 1 : Meet and Greet at airport (Narita or Haneda) – Free afternoon in Tokyo

Welcome to Japan! You will be greeted by our driver at the airport and get a transfer to the hotel by private van. You will have the rest of the afternoon to explore Tokyo by yourself. We are happy to advice you on how to fill in your time! You can check in at your hotel from 3 PM.

Day 2 : Tokyo Tour (8-hour guided tour)

Your guide will pick you up in the lobby of your hotel at 9 am, and the first visit of the day is to Asakusa. Your guide will explain you all about the history of this charming traditional area and take you not just to the main streets but show you some of its side streets as well. Then it is time to see a very different side of this multi-faceted metropolis as we head to Akihabara. The guide will tell you about Tokyo’s subcultures and show you some surprising sights you wouldn’t have found so easily by yourself. You will also get the opportunity to play a high-energy game. For lunch, we will take you to our favorite ramen shop.

After the madness of Akihabara we go to Imperial Palace Plaza where you will see the surroundings of where the Emperor and his family live including the famous Megane bridge. Next on the itinerary is Shibuya, a must-see for its crazy scramble crossing and loyal dog Hachiko. Don’t worry about getting lost, as your expert guide will lead the way.

Day 3 : Free day in Tokyo

Today you have a day for yourself to explore more of Tokyo’s highlights and lesser-known areas. Your guide can make you personalized recommendations at the end of the tour of day 2, or if you’d like to plan ahead you can have a look at our recommendations as well. If you are looking to make a day trip outside of Tokyo you can go to Nikko or Kamakura. In the evening the Shimbashi/Yurakucho area or Shinjuku are worth checking out for dinner and drinks.

Day 4 : Tokyo – Mt Fuji – Hakone – Bullet train – Kyoto

Today, the guide picks you up at 8 AM in your hotel lobby and your first destination is the 5th station of Mt Fuji. After admiring this symbol of Japan from up close, you get back on the minivan to head to Hakone. In this volcanically active town, you will enjoy a cruise on Lake Ashi and a ride in the cable car on Mt Komagatake. At 6 PM, you will board a bullet train to Kyoto, where you will arrive before 8 PM and spend the night. No assistant at Kyoto station, transfer to hotel on your own. just 2 mini from Kyoto station

Day 5 : Kyoto Autumn Leaves Tour : Ryokan and Kaiseki dinner

The guide picks you up in the hotel lobby at 9 AM for your comfortable Kyoto tour with a private van. Today you will explore Kyoto’s highlights; the Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavillion), the Kiyomizu Temple with gorgeous autumn foliage, and traditional neighborhood Ninenzaka. You will also experience a tea ceremony, after which you visit the Gion area were you can spot Geisha if you are lucky. Tonight you stay in a ryokan in forest-rich Arashiyama where we enjoy the hot spring and a fancy kaiseki dinner. After dinner, we will take a short night walk near the hotel to enjoy the illuminated foliage.

Day 6 : Kyoto – Nara Tour

Today we have an early start at 7 AM with a short morning tour of the Ryoanji Temple with autumn leaves, a Japanese garden, and a bamboo forest. Let’s enjoy the breathtaking atmosphere without any other tourists!

After breakfast, we go to Nara by train. No worries about your luggage, we arranged a baggage transfer to our next hotel. In Nara, we will enjoy a walking tour around the famous Todaiji Temple including the Nigatsudo, Nara Park which is full of tame deer, and the Kasuga Taisha shrine full of lanterns. We spend the night in Nara, where you can take a walk near the hotel after the sun sets, you are bound to find something interesting…

Day 7 : Nara – Osaka Tour

Today we have another early morning, as the guide will take you on a 6.30 AM walk through the deer park. This early in the morning, there are no other tourists around and the deer are naturally active, giving you a great opportunity to see why in Japan they are seen as divine messengers of the gods.

After breasfast, we take a local train to Osaka which brings us there within 1 hour. Leaving the luggage at the hotel, the guide will then take you on an Osaka walking tour that features Osaka Castle, the modern Umeda Sky Building, and the colorful Dotonbori area. For lunch, you get to sample an Osaka delicacy called kushiage, delectable fried meat and vegetables on a skewer.

Day 8 : Free day in Osaka

Today you have a day for yourself to explore more of Osaka’s highlights and lesser-known areas. Your guide can make you personalized recommendations at the end of the tour of day 7. You can also opt for booking our optional tour or tickets. Today’s optional tour is a 1-day tour to Hiroshima to learn more about the city’s history and see the most interesting highlights. Alternatively, tickets can be arranged for Universal Studios Japan, one of the country’s best and largest theme parks.

Day 9 : Free morning in Osaka – Airport

Depending on the time of your flight home or other plans, you might still have the morning in Osaka to spend freely. In that case, you could do some last-minute souvenir shopping in Shinsaibashi-suji street or Tenjinbashi-suji street or visit the iconic Namba Yasaka shrine.
